Valhalla V-37 Center Console Satisfies a Need for Speed

Simply put, Dr. Albert Lee has an affinity for high performance vehicles, and he owns multiple sports cars with the vanity plates to claim it. Most recently, Albert and his wife, Lisa, extended this appreciation for speed by commissioning a brand-new 1,200 hp Valhalla V-37 center console. Equipped with the latest high-tech horsepower from Mercury Marine, the triple configuration of 400 hp V10s pushes the twin-stepped hull to 70 mph (60 knots).

Land speed thrills began for Dr. Lee decades ago with his first Porsche: a 1987 911 with the custom license plate, 2Fass4U. He enjoyed this car for over a decade and eventually replaced it with a 2001 Porsche 911 Turbo. The next supercar in the fleet is a 2015 Ferrari 458 Spider that gives a nod to her Italian blood with the name, 2Veloce, which means swift or rapid in Italian. Their 2017 Porsche Cayenne Turbo S can be identified by the license plate reading, 2Schnel, the German word for fast or quick. Continuing on the theme of naming these high-performance import cars, it was only fitting that the new Valhalla partake in the fun as well. Albert explains, “When I ordered my boat, I wanted the name to include fishing and speed, so we came up with Reel Fass, which includes a sailfish insignia in the middle. Sailfish are the fastest fish in the ocean.”

The Lees have been boaters for over thirty years; however, the Valhalla is only their second boat! “I’m one of the unusual people who keep their boats.” He adds, “My very first boat was a 25’ Grady White. Lots of memories on that boat since I bought it new in 1992, boating and fishing with my dad and children.” They did finally part with it though, in preparation of buying the Valhalla.

He was drawn to the Valhalla brand based on Viking’s reputation for both quality and innovation. With such impeccable taste for high-end luxury vehicles, it makes sense those standards would apply to his next boat. Albert says of the V-37, “I love the styling! I did not want a boat everyone else had.

“Valhalla is unique and the build quality is excellent.”

Bluewater’s Scott MacDonald assisted the Lees through the entire journey: from ordering the boat, through the construction process and then beyond the delivery. “I loved having the opportunity to go to the factory. Scott was nice enough to come with me two times.” Albert continues, “To see how these boats are assembled is awesome. The quality controls and the detail in workmanship are impressive. It’s like my dental practice where success is in the details, and teamwork and passion in what you are doing is key to getting things done well.”

Scott points out that Lisa Lee was also engaged throughout the build process and particularly fascinated by their visit to the Valhalla and Viking factories. “We took a tour through Viking’s New Gretna plant too so she could see the whole setup,” he says. As an engineer with a career in electronics and radar manufacturing, it’s easy to see why Viking’s behemoth campus and production operations would be of great interest to Lisa.

Taking advantage of Valhalla’s semi-custom capabilities and impressive options list, Reel Fass is equipped with faux teak trim, teak helm chairs with custom stitching, a Seakeeper gyro stabilizer, FLIR and joystick controls for the triple Mercury outboards. Albert explains, “Also, I was able to use a custom color out of the Viking boat line: Pamlico Blue. I think it makes our V-37 look so classy.”

Scott assisted him in getting comfortable with his new boat and the technology on board, describing their first sea trial across the bay as, “eye-watering good fun,” indicating just how fast their faces were whipping through the cool air. They enjoyed bringing the Reel Fass out of winter storage together, taking her off the Chester River and pressing down the Chesapeake Bay. “It was a crazy rainy day, but it was fun,” Albert recalls. “Thank goodness Scott was able to come with me. We put the boat through her paces in foul weather, utilizing the electronics with low visibility and seeing how well the boat responds to commands.”

As the seasons change and weather improves, he aims to go offshore with friends and family throughout the summer. “There’s plenty of room to move around on this boat,” Albert reports. “We’re looking forward to fishing and cruising the Bay area and down the ICW, but definitely have trips to the Florida Keys and Bahamas on the bucket list, too.”

Throughout the search and buying process, Albert attended multiple boat shows, meeting many Bluewater team members. “Even though I didn’t buy the boat from those individuals, they all were so nice and informative.” He continues, “I can’t say enough about Scott. He held my hand the whole way and was very patient with me. Baxter [Lusink] and Vera [Sohovich] are great too!”

A gentleman with an enthusiasm for high-quality fast cars, Dr. Lee has found a vessel to extend that passion to the water with his new well-equipped Valhalla V-37. The high-output Mercury V10 outboards provide the punch in acceleration and speed, while the Viking pedigree delivers on the build quality and immaculate finish he’s come to appreciate. The Bluewater team brings the unsurpassed experience navigating the boat buying and construction processes, documentation, outfitting, delivery, and operation.

“Bluewater definitely exhibits a culture of teamwork and professionalism. Everyone went beyond the call of duty, and I’m not an easy customer!”

The Bluewater team is pleased to welcome the Lees to our extended family. We’re excited to see where you’ll go—and how fast—aboard Reel Fass!
