General Description
Bluewater Yacht Sales is pleased to assist you in the purchase of this vessel. This boat is centrally listed by Worth Avenue Yachts. It is offered as a convenience by this broker/dealer to its clients and is not intended to convey direct representation of a particular vessel
Overview
A yacht of this calibre only enters the market when all of the stars align. Her owners were in the final stages of a multi-year refit when their family grew in size and a larger yacht was needed. MARGENE has just completed the last refit updates at the Nordlund Shipyard, where she has spent the past several off-seasons benefiting from extensive updates.
Professionally managed and maintained by a full time captain, MARGENE does not show her age and, thanks to the exceptional care she has seen from several owners, she is an excellent opportunity to purchase and enjoy immediately. A discerning buyer will recognize the value of the detail of the work that has taken place under this and her previous owner.
An Ed Monk design, custom built by Nordlund Shipyard, MARGENE is a pedigreed Pacific Northwest pilothouse motoryacht and shares many lines with the famous Tollycraft 61 and 65, however, Nordlund took the build quality and customization to the next level to outfit the custom 63 Pilothouse models that left their yard.
A heavy, soft riding hull with exceptional stability and performance, this boat was equipped with larger detuned engines to give extended life and an efficient cruising speed of 12 knots with the ability to punch over 22 knots when needed.
MARGENE has had four owners over the years, originally commissioned in 1984 as “Carefree” for a Seattle venture capitalist, she has always been a Pacific Northwest yacht. Her third owner cruised her for 18 years, something you don’t often see and a testament to her capability and quality. These owners kept her in an indoor heated warehouse during the off-season from 2007-2017. The substantial 1996 and 2009 refits took place under their ownership, and the fourth and current owners have done an impressive job of continuing to refine, improve, and modernize the boat.

Salon
The large salon is entered through double-width doors from the aft cockpit, which sets her apart from many of her sisterships. Under her previous ownership, the yacht received a complete interior refit in 2009 by Jon Pokela and Mary Flores, well known interior designers, and later Mary Flores performed a significant update to the refit between 2021-2023.
Careful inspection of the details will reflect the quality and attention to detail from the custom varnished window trim installed to hide the aluminum window frames, to the high-end Whisper Wall headliners, and brand new carpets with sound attenuation padding.
The custom Mary Flores designed L-shaped sofa to starboard boasts storage and the ability to use the ottoman as a filler to add salon sleeping capacity when needed. Directly across on the port side is a custom hi/low TV entertainment center between two custom club chairs.
At the forward end of the salon is a set of 3 barstools allowing for bar-top dining while looking into the galley.
Galley
Up two steps from the salon a wetbar to port featuring an icemaker custom sink and new fixtures. The galley to starboard features granite counters, a brand new custom deep stainless steel sink with new fixtures, new induction cooktop, new convection microwave and new full size refrigerator. Dishwasher and trash compactor and ample upper and lower storage make for a pleasant space to prepare meals while remaining connected to everyone onboard. From the galley, you can take two steps up to the pilothouse or descend to the guest quarters, workshop, and engine room.
Dining Area
Apart from the galley bar, the primary dining area is the banquette in the pilothouse. A large table with C-shaped wrap around seating is a wonderful place to relax underway or sit around for a cozy meal. Dining can also take place alfresco up on the flybridge.
Owner's Stateroom
Located in the bow area of the yacht, the owner’s cabin is accessed through a staircase from the port side of the pilothouse. A spacious cabin with a walkaround queen sized berth, large lighted hanging lockers, good bedside and under-berth storage, and six opening hatches and portlights. Excellent headroom, floorspace, privacy, and new A/V equipment are pleasant features of this cabin.
Owner's Stateroom Ensuite
Ensuite to the Owner’s Stateroom is the spacious primary head which has been extensively refit by Nordlund Yachts to create a large custom tile shower with beautiful glass doors. Electric freshwater head with Toto bidet features, new fixtures, flooring, and wall paneling give a fresh, updated and timless feel.
VIP Stateroom
Accessed through the staircase off the galley the guest staterooms are in the middle of the yacht. The VIP stateroom is quite comfortable with a walkaround queen sized berth, wonderful lighting, and ample lighted storage lockers.
VIP Stateroom Ensuite
Recently customized by Nordlund, including enlarging the walk in shower, the VIP head is quite spacious and has all of the same finish touches as the Owner’s Stateroom head with glass doors, electric freshwater head, storage, and ventilation.
Guest Stateroom
The third cabin boats over/under bunks arranged in an L shape to give excellent headroom in both bunks. The lower bunk has been custom widened to easily accommodate a larger adult, and has a custom mattress as well. Natural light and custom cabinetry finish off the space.
Guest Head
The guest stateroom head doubles as the day head, located at the bottom of the aft staircase from the galley. This head features a separate shower, stone counters, electric fresh water head, and custom cabinetry.
Helm/Pilothouse
Completely reimagined and simplified, the pilothouse helm has been simplified and modernized. With Garmin and Furuno touch screen electronics, a dedicated screen for the multiple cctv cameras, the simple dash is quite pleasing to operate from, and completely custom. Everything is accessible and visibility is excellent from the helm. Sliding doors on either side of the pilothouse offer access to the side decks and the twin Stidd helm seats are comfortable to operate from on extended passages.
A lovely large c-shaped banquette aft of the helm seats is a wonderful place for guests to keep the captain company while underway, and boasts matching leather to the Stidd helm seats and a beautiful high gloss table.
Workshop/Utility Room
Located a few steps down from the guest cabin level the workshop space is quite generous for a yacht of this size. Full standing headroom, a large workbench and tool storage to starboard, and full size Bosch washer and dryer to starboard with space for folding and laundry supplies. Additionally a deep freezer is located under the workbench to provide storage for extended cruising.
From here, a door to the engine room provides easy access to the machinery space.
Aft Deck & Cockpit
A deep well cockpit with a transom door gives access to the ladder to the flybridge and the wide side decks up to the bow. The beautifuly varnished cap rails feature a functional capstan for adjusting mooring lines or tender to lines. Teak decks which were refinished and recaulked in 2016 are in excellent condition. There is a hot/cold freshwater washdown as well as a saltwater washdown, along side on the starboard side is the cockpit sink and access to the engine room. Beneath the cockpit floor is a large lazarette.
Swim Step
The swim step is moulded into the hull providing additional waterline length as well as storage and good access to the stern thruster. The port hatch has been converted to a custom “crab condo” with proper pumps and filtration.
A recently installed Olson Davit has been installed on the swim platform allowing for easier launching and retrieval of the tender.
Flybridge & Upper Helm/Command Bridge
The upper helm has wonderful visibility and benefits from a recently upgraded Garmin plotter screen. New Sunbrella canvas bimini with custom aft extension is in excellent condition and though it does not have a full enclosure, the owner wisely installed zippers to easily be able to add side panels in the future. Comfortable new Sunbrella covered seating areas provide a social space while underway or at anchor. The aft end of the seating area houses a counter which is pre-plumbed for water and electricity.
With the tender down on the Olsen davit, the flybridge becomes a large open seating area with modular furniture allowing the space of a much larger yacht and some uncovered seating for those that prefer sun exposure. The 1500lb Roskelly-Olson davit (replaced in 2009) remains on the flybridge to lift other toys, or should you choose to re-install new dinghy chocks to house the tender.
Engine Room
Unlike yachts built today, the engine room and machinery spaces aboard MARGENE are spacious and take up a large portion of the aft end of the yacht. The Detroit Diesel 8V92TA engines received a zero hour major overhaul approximately 2300 hours ago in 1996. These engines were originally 730hp and detuned to 650hp for extended life and additional power, pushing the boat comfortably at 12 knots burning 20gph but with the ability to reach 22+ knots underway when need be.
The Capital Gears transmissions were rebuilt in 2022 as new, the heat exchangers have been recently inspected and all zincs replaced; mechanically MARGENE has been well looked after and properly exercised.
With twin Westerbeke generators mounted either side, lifely AGM batteries, new inverter, watermaker, freshwater pump, custom designed underwater exhaust, hydraulic PTO, isoslation transformer and more, the engine room is very nicely laid out and updated with good access all around.
Construction
Ed Monk designed a stout, stable and efficient yacht when he drew the lines for the Nordlund 63. Built of FRP she is a modified V- hull with soft chines with frp stringers, plywood bulkheads, FRP superstructure, Airex cored hull and decks with teak laid over.
