The Gozzard 44 is a custom built, very robust ocean cruiser designed with ease of handling and interior comfort in mind. Well thought out and designed Anam Cara has enjoyed excellent care and upgrades.
Own the prettiest lady in the anchorage.
Her proven hull design with long keel and skeg hung rudder and propeller protected in an aperture is ideal for blue water sailing. The cutter rig spreads ample canvas for light air performance and is kept manageable with all furling sails and control lines led aft to the cockpit and a dedicated furling line electric winch. Protection from the elements is one of the most important considerations for a cruising yacht.
The large aft cockpit with windshield, dodger, and full enclosure provides a sanctuary in good or lousy weather. This is a beautiful boat both inside and out. There is just enough exterior brightwork for proper yacht appearance without making the owner a varnish slave. Please note: brightwork is overdue for refinishing.
Exterior touches: Graceful lines and artistic touches such as bow scroll work, cast dolphins, and hull side striping enhance aesthetics without increasing maintenance.
Below decks, her interior is beautifully finished in American Cherry. Her Gozzard signature interior layout with salon forward (quickly converts to a double berth) is cozy and comfortable. Design and construction details are very evident and a testament to skill and dedication of the artisans and craftsmen at Gozzard Yachts.
Interior Accommodations
It is five easy steps down the companionway ladder from the cockpit to the interior of the Gozzard 44. The companionway is well sheltered behind the windshield and hard dodger. The steps are easy to use and are more stairway than vertical ladder. Beautiful stained glass hinged companionway doors and an overhead slider close off the interior when desired and wood-framed, hinged and sliding screens keep insects outside and allow for ventilation. Once below the high level of craftsmanship, top quality materials, and ingenious layout are immediately evident: this is not a run of the mill production boat. Interior joinery is of North American Cherry and finished with satin varnish. All locker doors are louvered for excellent ventilation. The cabin sole is solid teak and basswood (not a thin veneer) and finished with high gloss urethane varnish. Hanging lockers are cedar lined. The cabin overhead is of gloss white fiberglass panels held in place by cherry battens allowing for easy access and maintenance. Ventilation and natural light are excellent as provided by numerous stainless steel opening deck hatches, and opening cabin side ports. The overhead hatches are fitted with screens. Removable screens are also provided for all opening ports. Storage is abundant in many purpose-built lockers, cabinets, drawers, and bins. A wine rack is cleverly tucked behind the port settee. Overhead and task lighting are well placed and adequate for night time navigation and liveaboard ease.
Anam Cara has the Gozzard “A” interior arrangement. The forward saloon design features a comfortable lounging area open to the galley that quickly and easily converts to a private double berth (see photos).
The settees to port and starboard scissor in to form a large double berth. They can also be used in place as two wide singles.
The knee coffee table in the center of the saloon also folds open to act as a rigid base for a dining table. A large cherry table securely attaches to the raised leaves to form a generous dining table for entertaining, with comfortable seating for 8. The whole salon is lined with storage – behind, below and above all of the settees are wonderful ventilated easily accessible storage compartments. There is also a huge hanging locker to port, and the coffee table itself opens for more storage. At the aft end of the salon are two cushioned upholstered swivel chairs. They are great seating for either entertaining or dining, sliding forward or backward as desired, on. Another exclusive Gozzard feature is the design of the bulkhead – the upper portion of the starboard bulkhead folds down into itself and the double hinged door on the port side opens flush to the wall. This gives a open, light and airy interior with no obstructions from the companionway to the bow when an open floorplan is preferred; but, when closed, allows for a completely private forward cabin.
On the aft side of the forward bulkhead is a unique built-in dinette/breakfast nook with storage below, behind, and around the seats and a cutlery drawer built into the table itself.
The galley has a center island with deep double stainless sinks and quartz countertops. She has hot and cold pressure water and a UV sterilizer water system for drinking water. There are pull out refrigeration and freezer drawers. These units are extremely well engineered and run on very low consumption 12 volt compressors with keel coolers. There is a built-in microwave which can be operated underway with the inverter. The stove is a 3-burner propane gimbaled Force 10 with oven. There is plenty of storage for all utensils and food items, including a swing out cabinet in the island with angled shelves designed to store (and make accessible) dishes in any weather.
Along the port side of the vessel are the heads and shower. The forward guest head, the shower and the master stateroom head are connected with each head having private access to the center shower. The separate shower stall is large, light and airy and has a teak seat for showering underway and a sump with teak grate. A solar powered vent fan also keeps the shower area fresh. The aft head has private access to the master stateroom. Both heads are roomy and comfortable and have great ventilation, beautiful onyx countertops, raised sinks, and electric heads. The generator is located to port of the shower stall, providing excellent access.
Another custom portion of the design in this Gozzard is the placement of the master stateroom to port. This master stateroom features a massive berth (larger than 80" by 80"), plus lots of storage drawers, bins, and a large hanging locker. Custom tile adorns the cabinet top and a well-positioned large skylight and windows fill the berth area with light each morning, while simultaneously protecting privacy. Under the berth is tremendous access to the aft section of the engine compartment, including the engine starting battery, stuffing box and shaft. Aft of the berth is access to the batteries, autopilot, and additional storage.
To starboard of the companionway is an oversized open quarter berth. This berth also doubles at a seat at the navigation station with a removable cherry wood divider.

Deck and Hull
Anam Cara has a white hull with wide green sheer stripe running from the caprail to the stainless steel capped rub rail. A gold recessed, gold cove stripe intersects the sheer stripe. A green boot stripe is just above the black bottom paint. A rub rail with stainless striker plate protects the hull sides while landing on pilings. Decks are white gel-coat with a molded-in non-skid. Teak and rubber decking are overlayed on the cockpit sole. A varnished teak caprail tops the four inch high raised bulwark. The clipper bow has attractive gold scrollwork painted on both sides of the bow sprit side supports. The fiberglass bowsprit is topped with wide teak planking. A varnished teak eyebrow trim is fitted to the coach roof edges port and starboard. Chromed bronze dolphin castings are located to port and starboard at the caprail transitions.
The large bow locker is accessed through a flush fiberglass butterfly lid. Forward in the bow are the chain lockers. Aft is storage space with removable teak floor slats. The propane locker is furthest aft. With chainplates, shrounds and mooring cleats set all the way outboard, the side decks are unobstructed and easy to traverse. A convenient anchor washdown is located in the bow locker, offering a choice of a sea water or fresh water wash.
The cockpit is amazingly large and functional for such a stately design. Protection from the elements is achieved with a low-profile windshield, hard dodger, rigid bimini and full enclosure canvas. The isinglass panels can be interchanged with screen panels. This arrangement will keep the crew dry, shaded, comfortable and happy. The fiberglass steering pedestal/cockpit table nicely breaks up the wide cockpit and functions as a housing for the engine controls, steering wheel, electronics, and table base. Drop leafs on either side enlarge the cockpit table for comfortable dining up to six. Storage lockers are beneath the starboard side cockpit seats. Access to the water is via a fold down transom door/swim platform, which has two steps and a platform at water’s edge. This arrangement effectively provides a walk-through transom for ease of boarding. A stainless steel swim ladder deploys from this door when opened, making swimming of the back a joy. A hot/cold bathing shower with an adjustable shower head is located at the transom door.
